Stonecutters Lodge is situated in the trout triangle of Mpumalanga - arguably where the best trout fishing in South Africa occurs. The Dorp's River is a perennial stream that runs for 3 kms through the Stonecutters property. There are 2 well-stocked dams and wild trout breed in the river. The maintained riverbanks are cleared for easy access. Stonecutter’s dams are stocked monthly from March – November.

A Fly Fisher’s Haven

Nature lovers, joggers, walkers and birdwatchers can all enjoy the 3 kilometre river meander running through the property. If you are looking for self-catering accommodation with excellent trout fishing in Mpumalanga, book a stay at Stonecutters. If you are a novice wanting to learn about the sport, book fly-fishing lessons with an excellent local guide. Equipment (rods, reels and nets) are available for hire and flies can be purchased.

Take up the challenge! Learn the fine art of fly-fishing or share your passion for the sport with a friend or partner. The package for 2 people includes fly-fishing lessons and equipment so that you can test your skills in the well-stocked dams in a beautiful environment. Instruction is by an excellent local guide. Picnic next to the dams - we provide a delicious breakfast basket of goodies and drinks!
Fly Fishing Lessons in Mpumalanga

Fly Fishing Clinic for Guests

A fly-fishing clinic is an ideal activity for a group of 6+ people wanting to learn something new. Surrounded by nature and in the company of family or friends, the lesson will include the basics of how to cast and retrieve. Learn all about the fly: fly selection, how to tie the fly on the line and to de-barb your fly. You will master basic fly-fishing techniques with a local guide in a beautiful setting. Regret no day visitors.

General Information

The fishing is only available to guests staying at Stonecutters. 'Catch and Release’ is allowed if the fish is not injured and can be released safely. Only trout fly-fishing equipment and methods are permitted and please use barbless hooks. (So, no spooning or fishing with bait permitted)! Bring your catch to the office for weighing and cleaning. Trout taken for the pot will be charged per kilo
