Try fly-fishing in dams or try to catch wild trout in the river
The Stonecutters Lodge waters (two dams and 3 km of river) are fully managed and this coupled with a generous restocking programme, ensures excellent fishing. The rivr banks are brush cut and pathways are mowed making the river accessible to the best fishing ponds and riffles. There is a small boat with oars on the dam that can be used for your enjoyment. LIFE JACKETS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.
Stocking: In the cooler months from March to November the dams are stocked with Rainbow trout on a monthly basis. The river is not stocked from a hatchery but wild trout are breeding and growing in the river- even a small wild trout will give quite a fight. Any trout caught in the river must be released safely back into the river. (CAR)
Flies: There is always a debate about what fly will work well in our waters – Our opinion most flies will work if it is presented well-so casting is more important than the fly on the line. Secondly, select a fly that looks like the natural insects flying around and thirdly take the season into account. Here are some ideas. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
Trout caught and taken from the dams are charged for by the kilo -If the Trout is injured accidently due to fish hooks being lodged in the fish or from being kept too long out of the water, the fisherman will still be charged for the fish. The Lodge provides a cleaning service at a small fee and the fish can be frozen and taken home on even cooked for your dinner!
Stonecutters Lodge abides by the FOSAF ethics and code of conduct assuring you of a great fly-fishing experience. Only fly-fishing equipment and methods are permitted. No lures or bait of any kind may be used. Day fishing is not permitted and the waters are for the exclusive use by guests that stay over. There are no rod fees charged
